For each child entering our centre for the first time we encourage a settling in period of approximately one month. We encourage
you to help us make the transition from home to Nans smoother by staying with your child for the first few visits, thus making a new place more comforting and familiar. We find this helps both
you and your child feel more "at home". Visits will gradually increase in
duration according to how you and your child are feeling.
You will need to bring:
-
A bag each day containing about six to eight nappies (cloth or disposable)
-
liners and pilchers if needed.
-
A change of clothes,
-
A coat and beanie for the winter
-
A wide-brimmed summer hat or cap with a peak and flaps to cover ears
and neck.
-
A donation of 15+ sunscreen.
-
Nappy cream and teething gel if required.
-
Comforters e.g. dummy or soft toy.
For babies on:
formula: the formula and bottles
Soya milk: the milk and bottles
Cow's milk: the bottles
Please remember to label all items you bring in.
Food
We provide a cooked lunch each day, which includes 4-5 pureed or mashed vegetables
and bread and cheese. The older babies' lunch is enhanced with whatever the older children are having either by mixing it with their vegetables or as finger food. Pureed apples is provided as a substitute or extra meals. Assorted wholemeal sandwiches are provided for morning
and afternoon tea as well as fruit, cheese and homemade rusks. To accompany afternoon tea, an additional snack is homemade fresh daily e.g.
banana cake, jam slice, ginger biscuits, pikelets etc.
Our approach
We implement a child-centred approach that uses detailed ongoing observations, developmental records, planning
and evaluation. Our safe, fun environment is responsive to the strengths, interests
and needs of our children and families. Records are available to parents
and an appointment for discussion can be arranged. Good communication between families and staff is vital
and we invite you to share any concerns, suggestions or interests you may have concerning your child's experiences at Nans.
Again, we would like to make all our families feel welcome and
comfortable. We look forward to working with you.
