Hours

Nans is open from 7.45am to 5.55pm from Monday to Friday, but we are closed on public holidays and also between Christmas and New Year.

Because our staff have commitments commencing soon after 6pm (for example appointments or picking up their own children), they must leave at 6pm each day.

Hence, would you please ensure that you arrive at Nans in adequate time to:

a) collect your child(ren)

b) ensure time for discussion if required, ie at 5.45pm or 5.50pm

You may call Nans at any time to speak to us about your child and we will always be happy to talk to you or ring you back if necessary.

After 6pm a late fee is charged, separate from normal fees. It is $15 for every 5 minutes (or part thereof) in the first instance and is payable in cash to the staff members in attendance. Thereafter the late fee charged for any child not collected by 6pm is $25 per 5 mins or part thereof.

Collecting Children

If your child is not being collected by the usual person, we must have your authority before we can allow your child to leave. This is essential, as there have been incidents in child care centres where unauthorised persons have attempted to remove a child. Please make sure you notify us—for the safety of your child.

Please also inform us if you are delayed by a crisis and cannot collect your child on time.

Under the Children's Services ACT 1986, any child or person who is apparently suffering from an infectious disease will be excluded from the child care centre. The infectious diseases poster is located in the front entrance at all times.

Medications

All medication must be clearly marked with the child's name. Please fill in he Medication Book with your child's name, medication type, dosage, time to be administered, and sign it.

Snugglepots and Cuddlepies: Medication and the Medication Book is stored in the kitchen.

Pre-school: Medication and the Medication Book is stored in the Preschool room.

If your child develops a high fever at Nans you will be contacted for permission to administer paracetamol.

All tablets and medications are potentially dangerous and children should always take their medication and tablets in the presence of an adult. Under no circumstances leave medication in your child's bag. Small children are particularly at risk from the dangerous side-effects of tablets and medicines.

Children should not bring money, especially coins to Nans. The practice is also potentially dangerous as small children can attempt to swallow them. Please ensure your child does not bring money to childcare.

Behaviour management

Nans promotes cooperation, positive interactions, communication and constructive problem solving. This is taught through first-hand experiences and modelling. We aim to help children learn to guide their own behaviour by showing them affection and trust.
